[Suggestion] Fewer animals together making them more scarce, and encouraging hunting
I thought it has a little more animals and wildlife, when I entered I found 4 deer 3 wolves all in less than 20 square meters, I believe it should decrease as in the jungle that from time to time we come across an animal should be a more scarce resource making us have to explore and hunt.

riverman10The spawn rate is definitely a bit much right now... It seems every time I leave my house I can just fire a few arrows and get a few more large deer...

icarusandyFewer larger animals and more smaller animals. Maybe birds as well.

hajtezOnce you have a bow having food is super easy as also all the pray come to you all the time. This does not encourage you to a) explore b) look for alternatives to meet c) fish d) build a firdge (in the future).

JimAgreed. Hunting animals is way too easy and there should definitely be a variety of sizes and rarity.

Dabb1eFewer animals but harvest more meat per animal. I have chests of bones just to keep up with hunger

Macaron_maj MergedI understand the theory, but are there any other humans on this planet?
If there are no other humans on the planet, wouldn't the animals be less wary?
For example, if you continue to hunt in the same place, the animals will not spawn, or if the buildings and forests disappear, the animals will not spawn.
It would be nice to be able to trap animals in the following ways
There was a talent to visualize animal tracks and destinations.
I think it would be a good idea to make it possible to hunt animals by setting traps with it.
Surely everyone would enjoy the hunt. -

MSDAgreed. Fewer large animals (could use more small ones) that gave more resources per kill and were worth more experience to offset the lower number.

pablothere is a lot of food source! no need to put more .... animals have to have less spawn time and walk in a larger area, in addition to wolves walk more together I see them very separate walking lost !!!! wolves can also put more nocturnal for being nocturnal animals and bears put as diurnal .

Mike MergedI found that there were way too many animals around our base which was on the island. We didn't have to leave the island for food because it was so plentiful. Two of us went exploring and didn't see any animals once we got half the explorable map away from the spawn area.

Michael B MergedTraps would be a great idea for passive hunting in my opinions.. Until you get to tier 2 food was about none.. once we got to iron tools and getting 5 food from the big deers I was able to not focus hunting as much and help with other duties/chores... So with traps it would be nice to come back once in awhile to see if you caught anything.. Along with fishing traps and nets as well. This could open up catching crabs possible as well.

PlazmatazYeah, it felt really off just being able to slaughter dozens of deers (some right next to each other) and level up rapidly from hunting and skinning. I think there also need to be some changes to how the process of hunting actually works? Right now the only way to startle an animal is to be detected or hit it. Near misses, even landing on the ground next to the animal has no effect; hitting an animal (but not killing) causes them to immediately run away at a high speed and impossible to catch unless your follow up shot does enough damage before its gone.
Would be nice to have a system to track wounded animals till they bleed out, or if you're constantly hunting in a single area it depopulates that area of prey so that you don't over hunt a single area. -

KevinYes I found I always had a surplus of food that would just spoil because I didn't need it. That should only be the case much later in the game after most tech has been unlocked. Wolves were a little too common as well. Bears definitely too common. A bear or two would come to my cabin every 20 minutes. But maybe it was because I built on the side of a lake by a waterfall idk.

TwinMindsThis is even more important with this beta weekend where wolves and bears are even more vicious and dangerous. There are still so dang many of them respawning incredibly often (usually 2-3 spawns per day) where our 5 person group was doing nothing but defending against bear/wolf attacks all day every day.

JesseThe amount of animals in one place is indeed a little silly. I kill probably 3 bears and 5 wolves a day without ever leaving my homestead. The deer and such are pretty plentiful too, but those are harder to kill. They don't often choose to run into my spear like wolves or bears do... which has me thinking, do these predators ever give up the fight from taking too much damage?

KalechI was unable to move my base because every time I would get killed by a bear and lose all my items. Likewise I could barely make it back to my drop ship because of bears. But at the same time they were easy to cheese in water so I was basically living off of bears, I just couldn't really leave my base. And yeah, everyday there's 30 deer pathing right across my deck or straight up walking into my house if I leave the door open.
The multitude of deer/goats/raccoons taking the same predictable paths every time really ruins the immersion, and at the same time the bears ruin any fun in exploration.
I will say that if hunting is made more difficult, an adjustment to the first oxidizer needing hide might be necessary. Ive suffocated before getting the materials to make one in the past.
Tbh I feel like animals are THE biggest weak point in the game right now. I headed to my drop ship and ended my session early after losing yet another load of items to a bear. -

VinchI agree that the spawn rate seems unnecessary high but I also think the AI behavior probably doesn't help in that regards. I didn't even bother hunting any animals because I got all my meat/leather/bone from defending myself against wolves and bears. Deers/Goats/racoons also seem to always try to converge towards your house or just run in front of it.

JinxWolves usually hunt in packs and generally keep their distance when its confronted with hunters. Wolves need to be recoded to behave like wolves. They go after smaller prey unless in a pack to take down a bear or humanoid.

Crimson SwordI feel that this being a beta, devs are stress testing properly, without spoiling us with adding all the animals/monsters intended for later on, this will be balanced more at a later date. But you cant stress test with so few animals on a map. So I believe the devs know what they're doing in regards to this.

JohnFelt more balanced this beta weekend, for sure! Things look like they are coming along well, GG devs!

BonnieSince rabbits were introduced, I didn't see a single raccoon in the game, which is odd. Are you taking them out completely or was this just an oversight?

SparticousI think the Devs have got this one right, since the launch. They are doing a great job.
