[General Issues] AMD crashes, bad textures and low FPS
im running a 5600xt gpu, 3700x cpu and 32gb ram. i cant get aboud 31 fps. i average 27. i changed from 1440 to 1080 with no impact and GPU is maxed out all the time while playing.
many people in the discord with different amd cards report the same, it makes the game look awful and very hard to play

Overseer Admin MergedThere is an issue with the latest AMD drivers. You need to roll back to 21.6.1.
-
28 Aug, '21
Aipeg MergedFound a workaround for this on the internet, without a downgrade for your drivers. If you give the game the starting parameter -dx12, it`ll work just fine. Had this too, as I`m on a 6900XT.

Andrew MergedI think im having the same issue with a 6800 on 21.8.2 i really dont want to roll back drivers for just this game :(

Obi Mergedadding -dx12 to launch options fixed this error for a friend of mine
-

Bradupdate, tried with driver 21.8.1 and then updated to newest driver 21.8.2 no change / maybe slightly worse. even the games opening video is stuttery and breaks the audio
-

Loopityping in -dx12 on the launch parameter for the game made the game way smoother for me (only works with amd gpus). But i agree, this game is under optimized for amd gpus

TEAserI've the same issues on my Rx 5700 GPU.
I am running this system exactly:
CPU: Ryzen 3600
GPU: Rx 5700
Ram: 32gb 3200mHz (4*8)
Storage: 1TB NVME M.2 Kingston A2000 SSD
OS: Windows 10
I am running on Medium 1440p and I'm getting 30-40fps, this is way too low.
I expect that the devs have yet to optimise for AMD gpu's, cause although it's playable right now for Beta testing, It's not playable in the long term. -
28 Aug, '21
AiraneonI'm using a GTX1050ti and have the same issue, one thing I noticed is that even though my gpu usage is 100% it doesn't "heat up" like any other game. Almost like it's not using the GPU to actually load stuff. Already checked NVIDIA control panel and the game is using that GPU, but not using properly...?

QUQya my old gtx980 works better than my rx 6700xt even when i rolled back drivers
so if u havent a great nvidia card just wait ....on amd its looks shit,,, and company says also use nvidia -
28 Aug, '21
tallieNot just AMD either - I'm running a 2070 Super with 16-core CPU, and a friend is on a 1080 with a recent i7, and I can't crack 40fps except at night time when you can't actually see anything. I think my friend sits around 30fps, and it was even worse on the lowest graphics.

Overseer Admin MergedWe just added a DX12 launch option in Steam that appears to fix the AMD driver crashes we've seen. If you use that and still encounter this crash, please let us know.

Uberfishfor those Nvidia users posting here, 1080 is the minimum spec GPU so don't expect anything good. But for us AMD users here, we can be using 5700XTs and 6000 series cards and achieve absolutely lousy FPS below 30 in this game right now.
Ryzen 5 3600
5700XT
16gb RAM
Playing on 1080p borderless in DX12 with textures on epic and shadows on low I get around 30FPS. If there is a fireplace on, my FPS drops to below 0 and becomes SPF (Seconds per frame)... -

ChrisI'm on an rx 6800xt, Ryzen 9 5950, 32GB ram, M.2 NVMe SSD. and getting 62ish frames in 2k on med-low settings. WOW!!!
Nearly any other game I could play high settings and get 165+
Love the game when it is working. -

JackUsing an RX 5600 XT at 1080p, I get around 30 FPS with High settings. I tried switching to Low and Medium settings, and there was no FPS improvement. When I tried Epic settings, I was getting about 12 FPS. The game was still surprisingly playable at 30 FPS - for the most part - but I can't wait to see it with fluid graphics!
-

Adriano JuniorI have tried to play on my RX570 (4GB), but even on low settings was hard to get 30fps. When using torch or close to a campfire fps goes about 12fps. I know my GPU isen't great, but not been able to play it even on low its just to bad. They need to work on optimization asap.
In terms of performance, Icarus is a new Ark...
(Obs.: Ark runs just fine on my GPU. About 30fps on high preset...) -

Martin RieckI can confirm i had the same issue together with other graphical issues, that seem to be caused, because the graphics card ran under full load all the time.
I would say i have a mid to high end computer with a Ryzen 7 3800X, RX 6700 XT, 32GB PC3200 RAM, NVME with PCI-E 4.0 and a 43" 4k Monitor. Usually i can play the most FPS games on 1440p with ultra details without any issues. And 4k games with medium to high details works for the most game as well. But with Icarus i have only around 30FPS (1440p on high details) and the graphics card is under full load all the time when i start the game. It doesnt matter if i switch to 1080p with medium to low details. of course i get more FPS and the game looks ugly, but the graphics card is still under full load. Thats strange.
I hope you can get the performance fixed in one of the next patches and weekends. -

TheoI've had some of these issues as well with my current setup on 1080P. Mainly the stuttering, even for the intro video, but also several crashes after playtime. Then again, I've had crashes in other games too. But somehow managed to get the game to work more or less fine with an average 30FPS at Medium settings for long enough time to enjoy the game before crashing. But a little more AMD optimisation would be great!
My setup:
Ryzen 3400G
Asus Radeon RX580 8GB
16GB 3200MHz RAM

SkyNett81i do have XFX Radeon RX 6800 Speedster MERC 319 and sometimes i do get low FPS for some sec.
i do run the Stable release for the AMD drivers .
and if I or my friends light up the Fireplace or a torch my FPS drops down to 3-6 FPS .
i do run the game on Epic Graphicsettings. -

VladI was try to run the game on all settings from Low to Epic. My FPS locked to 60 and always there. The only difference I have is how hot it is. Around 55C on Med and 62C on Epic. No stuttering or drop FPS. 6900 GPU Ryzen 5900 32Gb memory M.2e

BeylieIf I use -dx12, there's a 50% chance that textures load and then disappear 2 seconds after the game starting (high quality). If I use DirectX 11 it loads fine every time.
A percentage indication of how much impact a graphics setting will have on average will be cool.
Will Vulkan be introduced as a render pipeline? -
29 Sep, '21
BonnieA player shouldn't be told they should roll back to 21.6.1 to fix texture or FPS issues with your game. It's a much easier solution for Icarus to bring the game up to speed to help players who purchase their game by making sure it works with the latest AMD drivers. Many of us have other games we play without any problems at all, and expecting players to fix the game for developers is nonsense.
Furthermore, I can no longer go inside of my driver's properties and roll back. In order to fix my issue, I need to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them again. That's definitely too much work for me to tackle just to play one game when I have so many others at my disposal that work with the drivers installed. -

NamaeraI`m running the game on High with disabled shadows on a
Ryzen 5600x
RX 5700XT
32 GB RAM DDR4 @ 3600Mhz
1080p on a 32" / 144 hz monitor
Getting an average of 22 FPS, until I light a torch / lantern or open the map. Then it drops to 2 average FPS and my GPU takes off at around 4600 RPM.
I am not comparing to other games, but this seems overkill for the quality of design.
I am looking forward for it, nevertheless. Played all BW and can`t wait for the full release. -

TechnoguruHi all,
Worse performance since BW7 on 5700XT.
BW7:
DX12: 25-40fps / DX11: 20-30fps
BW1 - 6:
DX12: 40-60fps / DX11: 20-30fps
System: 5950X/5700XT 8GB VRAM/64GB RAM @ 4000MT / 980 Pro SSD
During BW1-6 i tweaked to get 60fps, but the game looked awful (all on low!). I compromised with high textures and epic view range. (including disabling motion blur, v-sync, dynamic lighting, ..)
Also, FSR on anything but quality gave very ugly tesselation, espacially foliage.
-> didn't touch any setting since BW2 to get a baseline. (i also checked and double checked the settings every BW)
Hopefully a future patch/game launch will improve AMD based systems.
Thank you all and looking forward to game launch -
23 Nov, '21
TechnoguruForgot to mention, SAM (Smart Access Memory) on/off didn't affect the fps in any way.
Always ran the game at the latest drivers, except BW7. Still on 21.10.2 at that time. -

SvennRadeon 2700x
Radeon VII (16GB GPU)
32GB RAM
2560x1080 resolution (Ultrawide 1080p)
There are several issues here. First of all, the game defaults DLSS to on, but it's greyed out. AMD doesn't support DLSS so it just leads to really bad flickering, and we can't even turn it off in-game. Opening the config file and setting DLSS to Off will reduce the flickering (but not completely eliminate it). Some more info on this here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SurviveIcarus/comments/qyf7v4/grassplants_have_an_eyehurting_fuzziness_to_them/
Second, performance is just bad. It's unplayable without FSR (30fps on low settings with FSR disabled). With FSR I can get about 50fps average but everything is slightly blurry. -

TechnoguruHi all.
Hope for a good launch!
I'd metion this: new drivers available!
"Radeon™ Software Adrenalin 21.12.1" (Revision Number Adrenalin 21.12.1 Optional - NOT WHQL!!)
-> in the release notes it mentions support for Icarus
We'll see later today if it has fixed some of the graphical issues.
Good luck RocketWorkz! -

The issue with fire effects is still not resolved. Any time there is more than 1 light source involving flame effects, my framerate geeks out and bounces between 67 OR 144 fps, and gets choppy as hell. That's EITHER 67 OR 144 fps, not a range in between. If there is just one flame emitting light source at night, it's fine and I get 60-90fps. If the flame is used during the day when global illumination is happening, it goes 67 OR 144 fps, same if at night 2 flame emitting light sources are active at the same time. I'm also still getting heaps of visual noise when not cranking AA to the max. It's pretty weak you guys spent all that time screwing around so you could add DLSS and icing for NVidea, meanwhile, we AMD people don't even have a playable experience while these bugs have been persistent issues for months. -

NogaremThe Overall AMD-Performance for this game sucks, to say the least. I needed to manipulate the settings for Icarus in the driver, bcause of the in-game settings having 0 effect. Without the changes my GPU went to 85°C in 2min. With the changes it is now (mostly) at 65°C, still spikes from time to time to 75°C.
