Hmm id like tha ability to place shared markers on a map. Then the team work can really help.
Also this would be very realistic for those capable of space tech.
It can be a talent that needs to be earned. -

Overseer Admin MergedThis is being considered to be available through advanced items you'll be able to unlock. Flare arrows are an item you can unlock in the beta that can be used to help others find you.

Pablo Mergedit would be very interesting to have a device showing the location of the other player like a gps, in the beginning you could start with a map even without showing your location... the gps could be a satellite map

Brandon MergedThought I would add my two cents. I would love to see an unlock for a transponder. You see the transponders on the map if you have one in your inventory. And you can put a transponder in a chest so you can see that chest location on the map. Stuff like that. I feel like it satisfies the need to “see others” on the map without ruining the immersion.

Brad Mergedi like that there's no pings or anything, makes the game realistic, serious and hard, i think it'd be better if you do not add them.
-

cre8tiv1I agree. I would take this a step further and ask that they allow map markup... the ability to draw on the map and add text for notes with multiple icons and colors.
-
29 Aug, '21
wildfireBonus points if markers are shared with others on the prospect (with a toggle to enable/disable shared markers so you can choose to only see your own)
-

Old and Nerdy MergedYou can see them when they die.... lol I kinda like having to use the map and talk about where you are. And when they join it shows you where they landed. But it would be nice as an upgrade like you said, cause it can be tough if somebody gets attacked and you can just pull up your map and run to them
-

EssexNo drawing, prone for immaturity and trolling. Just colors and symbols. No text. There are signs in game for this :D

DarkBlueAgent+++ The ability to add it to your compass whenever you want. Like a waypoint.
-

Quaigone MergedI think it can be in the tech tree like a beacon to craft, radar to see and/or more items like this...
-

NoxMortusAgreed. As a minimum activated sleeping spot should be visible on mini map.
The irony of having a GPS/mapping system, but the inability to record the data. -
30 Aug, '21
420inPortlandI'd like a markup feature, and researchable GPS for tagging fellow prospectors in the group. maybe a level 10 item, so you cant have it in the early game, but don't need to be far into late game to access it.
-
30 Aug, '21
SoundyI guess a simple short personnal note can be add to each markup.
As when you're looking for something on the map, you're not necessary at this spot IG.
Sharing markers in the team is a great idea too. (Toggle to enable/disable shared markers) -

VacantThere should be no markers on your map at all unless you buy the suit upgrade, I prefer to have to navigate by terrain like in Green Hell. Map markers are boring in survival games.
-
30 Aug, '21
Vacant MergedDisagree, it's a survival game, Map pings should be suit features you have to purchase, NOT by default... Why have flares in game if everyone has a bright green nametag above their head.
-
30 Aug, '21
Vacant MergedStrongly disagree, removes the purpose of flares and map markers and teamwork. This one change removes so much gameplay I don't even know where to begin.

Old and Nerdy MergedGreat idea, I looked for it too, and it'd also be nice to be able to share the pins with other players
-

DaveNo markers to start, but upgrade to a GPS system to allow them would be good.
Especially if we can share markers and general map reveal data with other team members as an unlock. -

Chris MergedWould save me 5 minute conversations and running next door to my gf's computer to tell her where I am or where she should go for something, so I'm for it. Pings are different from mark mappers as well, it's like a 3 second marker to give someone the idea where to head to.
Flares are still useful as they can pinpoint the spot on top of a ping once someone is closer. If shared map markers get added could also be exploited anyways, in a more tedious way.
Pings are very realistic, you have a space station above that can bounce GPS off, to the GPS you see your map from, maybe there's not a whole satellite system up there, but you're only on a small part of the planet anyways, doesn't really break the lore. -

Rusty KnowlesMaybe the standard issued suit should offer standard navigational features.
Make the suit functionality integrate into the location of the dropship; specifically the quadrant.
Lets say the dropship put you in L12. The standard issue suit grants player tracking within that quadrant. The standard suit should also offer a personal(nonshared) marker feature as a navigational aid which also displays on the compass. Should players venture outside of the quadrant the standard issued suit loses communications with the dropship and you therefore the player loses the suits navigational benefits a until they return within the quadrant.
Develop a Tech Tree/Tier system for the suit/dropship system (maybe eventually transitioning from a suit->dropship to a suit->orbital ship system allowing much greater capabilities) to allow the upgrade path of the suit navigational capabilities. -

ChrisA low level map marker such as a flag post / cloth flag that you have to visually see (not on the map). The post could be stackable so you can put it above the tree line.

ElzheizI agree with map markers (ability to draw on the map or something) BUT I'd add that it should require players to be next to each other (you can draw on your own map if you want, but others will only be able to see it on their own map if they are next to you when you draw, to show that you actually physically draw on the map). I don't know how feasible this is, but I think it might be pretty coo, you can give directions that way, and remember landmarks

SonicYou can screenshot map and paste image in Paint to have a personal map with farming markers, your actual bed spot, death body, etc.
In real life or survival games it would be the same drawing in a paper/skin with coal/tree sap/blood/plant colorants =) so if we can do it in Paint anyway... why don't have it in the game in a similar way to avoid Alt + tab or look a second monitor? ^^u -

Mr.ChillWhen you drop onto the planet in your drop pod. You have no idea of how the land arround you looks like. I like the idea of Fog of war and that this should be blacked out for each NEW prospect. And you cannot place markers on the map if you have not explored it yourself and open in FOW. If you have scanners the FOW will open up to the extend of the area the scanner can see and you can now also place map markers on the open FOW.

ChristosThe map is already very big in BW2 and will get a lot bigger as more areas become accessible.
Especially when playing solo, there is no way to remember everything you discover during exploration (caves, secret caves etc).
Exploration is very fun, making notes is also fun. Making notes on physical paper (approximate location on a grid box) is less fun than making the same notes inside the game on the available blacked-out map window.
Some pins / icons (cave, resource, water) would be great, as well as coloring and editing them (white cave: cave has resources, red cave: no resources left).
Such basic help should be available early on to promote further exploration, no need to wait for lvl30 and the radar talent. The idea already mentioned, carrying cartography notes with map information is a great option, if the map window should be used only by radar / digital means. -

Gamer Mom MergedCould we have some sort of compass or map marker that shows where our base is?
Also, being able to drop a custom marker, say if we are heading to a cave or specific location, would be helpful -
13 Sep, '21
ShoppyI think being able to make a charcoal pen or something early game would be quite cool. No advanced marker but you could literally write/erase on the map with the charcoal with your mouse.

MantaukI love the idea of transponders and place-able beacons (specifically for compass+map integration) to mark discovered locations like caves or other resources, or even to mark travel waypoints as needed (in-lore, these could be leased frequencies whose licenses expire at the end of the drop, preventing re-use on future drops). Less accurate notations should be available through the map interface itself so you can place markers or notes more accurately when you are in a specific location (and zoomed in on the map) but could still draw or mark out notes for general locations without actually being there. These marks and locations (not transponders) should persist at the player's discretion between prospects. This is in line with accruing a more complete map via fog of war exploration over multiple drops on a single character and could provide opportunities for an experienced player who has seen more of the map before, having their old notes from past drops.

simcoreMay not be the right solution for the Icarus world, setting and challenge, but the way that Hell Let Loose have approached map markers is amazing. Both via top down map and visual line of sight, wheel selection.
-
14 Sep, '21
ZaxerEither pinning the map or... Placeable beacons that are limited on start, unlocked, or craftable. Either way you need to be able to name or rename the beacons/pins. In the case of beacons, maybe they could give you info on the area, possibly monitoring resources/resource respawns. Maybe have both pins and beacons.

kininjaAgree with admin response that will be available with advanced unlocks. I would hate to take away from gameplay goal of exploring, need for flare arrows, communication based on landmarks. Don't send me into the wilderness with GPS when one of the core attractions to me about Icarus is getting lost in the woods... and then finding yourself! :-)
Plus, it's fantastic when you're able to light a torch in the night and your friend sees you from far off with a huge sense of relief.
HOWEVER -- I would love a personal marking ability from the start. We have an enviro suit with a map that shows drop pod location. Let me at least use the map to take notes of where I setup a small camp or where I saw a cave I want to go back to later. That kind of thing. Just don't make it shareable until much later. -

[SIX] Six6VI[SUG] Functionality: Colour coded player location and facing icons should be on the topmost layer of the display at all times and visible above any other marker / spawn counter / icon etc.
Drop pods: Either colour coded or, you only see your own pod to reduce confusion on return.
Spawn point: As above for the drop pods as it's not relevant to you with a toggle on / off switch.
Waypoints: Small selection of icons, eg food / ores / tunnels / hazard / water / oxite / bridges.
Shared markers: Requires team members to be in proximity (increased by tech level?) and activate a 'callibrate map' option. This could share the colour coded drop pod, spawn and personal waypoint data but it would also be handy if you could toggle that on and off by player and / or team as some players (eg me) tend to go a bit nuts and waypoint every useful resource.
Gravestones: Handy but too big in BW2 (as are the pods). Consider a 10x10 sub grid as you zoom into the map to aid communication of where you died?
