JaysonPhoenixyeah they should be less likely to see you with open windows and shouldnt see you with closed windows, at least as long as you didnt already aggro them

Unrenowned MergedI think that if we are indoors, crouched/stealthed, and all the exterior doors/windows are closed, then we should not be visible to the various animal life. We can make the case that the thatch building material doesn't fully cover you, but a good wooden/stone structure should.

Matt MergedSat in my house with no windows and the door shut - bears and wolves try to attack me even though I am not moving afk. I think buildings should break line of sight for animals.

Rocket AdminAnimals actually hear you inside, rather than see you. In future adding better indication of this in UI.

IOAnimals typically have a fear of fire, a predator/prey hierarchy, diurnal and nocturnal sleep cycles, apex-predator and sub-apex carnivore hierarchies, and prioritize surviving over killing the bad things that made them angry. Pack hunters like wolves tend to be intelligent enough to hang around areas they think have food and set up ambushes if an opportunity arises. Something that animals really don't do, however, is invade well-founded shelters to get at food sources they can't recognize. Almost all predators alive today are cautious before they're hungry man-eating beasts. There are a lot of points to take from all this, but the main one I want to make is that if we're selectively taking realism for the sake of making games more interesting, there are quite a lot of interactions to be added. Choosing to make random animals walk into your building, get offended, then break down the stone (lightning-proof) walls with their bare (bear?) claws seems like an odd one to pick.

Saiko MergedThis is what annoys most players. wolves and bears are so aggressive. it attacks without reason and destroys everything it saw
-
14 Sep, '21
NavitasRocket- please remove the bears ability to hear my characters freaking heart beat while I stand still, atleast until you reduce their spawn rate to less than one every two freaking minutes.
-
14 Sep, '21
Wiborg1978I had that problem too. Even when i was inside and doing nothing the bear or wolve start to attack the door/wall to break in.
-

Jon NI had this issue and wasn’t moving. I went to grab some food irl…didn’t want to leave the game since I was hosting. I put my character in the corner of my stone house, built on top of a stone foundation. When I came back, a bear had tore the entire corner of the house out, including the foundation and had killed me. Not to mention all the storage that was destroyed.
-
16 Sep, '21
FalconburgerPerhaps being inside can add a buff to your stealth so they cannot smell you quite so well. I don't know if they are more attracted to a player or location where meat is stored?
-

darvanenYa spelled "smell" wrong :P

BryanThis was particularly brutal during the arctic, partner and I would be constantly be agroing wolves in our arctic base. I mean its like we're trying to get our gear together for the mammoth and every second we'd be agroing a pack of 4 to 6 wolves. Stone walls should give you some sort of protection from agroing animals
-
29 Sep, '21
MercyI can accept that animals can "smell" you rather than "see" you while in a building. What is totally unbelievable is that a bear can hit a stone wall twice and knock holes into that wall. I can understand a bear hanging around waiting to see if anyone is going to leave the building and then attack that person, but take down a stone wall to get to a person ... nope .. just NO.

ZinnaAnimals see you through giant boulders to. While I was sneaking and I didn't have gas, inside my home, so how did they hear me? Sometimes, I am making all kinds of noise and they still walk right up to me inside my home. So I'm skeptic about they hear us inside the house.

RandomphileIn a tangentially related subject, are predators supposed to spawn near and aggro on your shelter after the skinning bench has been used?
-
05 Dec, '21
EldenacI do have an addition to this problem as I have had wolves and deer spawn inside my house. I was quietly waiting out the night safely inside my house when the wolf spawned in front of me.
-
06 Dec, '21
Snoochy42possibly code it to where "if in shelter, -50% perceived threat"?
Or maybe even have Building Materials have set threat reductions, and make Thatch have the most so it's not 100% useless, wood next, stone provides minimal, glass provides none? -
08 Dec, '21
TigusVidiksI think the icon displayed it's wrong. They don't actually see you, but they can hear you. If you crouch and stop moving they stop detecting you. But if you keep moving inside the house, their detection meter (the eye) fills up.
-

EeebelelGood one! Huge bug report!
It's really annoying to come back from AFK to see you and your house dead
also hiding behind stone ores won't work, which is even more annoying -
12 Dec, '21
Sonar The Synth#2761No, they actually do see you
-
13 Dec, '21
GarriethYeah they dont see you. I had a polar bear RIGHT outside my wood hut, and mannnn I was shaking irl but totally silent and cooped up in a corner in game lol
-
15 Dec, '21
boneyOne of the most frustrating things in the game currently. Ive walked away because I wasnt going to be gone long (10 minutes max) a few times and have died to attacks. These animals in the game must have super hearing if they can hear me just standing still while in shelter.

AnonyMoose"Animals actually hear you inside, rather than see you. In future adding better indication of this in UI."
I figured that was the case, but pre-emptive feedback:
Moving a little while crouched should not add so much noise and fill the yellow Eye detection icon so rapidly. If I'm crouch-inching around in my house but a bear happens to patrol by and somehow hears quiet steps... I mean, it's technically realistic because animals have keen senses, but there's a line beyond which it becomes unfun and too much.
And crouching-while-moving should have a much slower "increase to the yellow Eye icon", than just uncrouched walking, and lastly Sprinting. Slower to increase, so that at least people can creep around in their houses. I think even quiet upright walking should be allowed if you're completely out of LOS, and Sheltered -- being surrounded by walls (insulated against temperature also means muffled sounds). -
27 Dec, '21
TiriPonThus, it should not happen.
-
28 Dec, '21
NateI built a retaining wall around house 5 squares away all the way and the predators still see/hear and try to attack. Also have ran into alot of sharing equipment and when it hits the ground it falls through. does not do it if dropped on a floor.
-
29 Dec, '21
AmandaInterestingly, I have this problem with wood construction but not masonry. A polar bear walked straight past my stone structure without aggroing. Is the visibility with wood just a bug? It's as if you're standing right in front of them, even though you're behind giant chunks of wood!
-
31 Dec, '21
NathanThis has happened to me multiple times. I've even been stealthed, not moving, in a wood base with no windows and a closed door and every single wolf and bear magically saw me or heard me, whichever it is. Either way, it's not okay

Animals actually hear you inside, rather than see you. In future adding better indication of this in UI.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's nonsense !! How can an animal hear me when it walks past me at a distance of about 10 foundations (you know the paths of the animals after a while) when everything is closed and you are crouched and NOT moving. Or someone seriously wants to tell me that I make noises while I'm in the skill tree and reading there, or I'm not at the PC at all .. Aha, you can probably hear me in the kitchen!
I can't understand that you are discussing with us instead of just changing that !! so does the problem that these animals can tear down an entire house made of wood or stone .. -
05 Jan, '22
MikeExactly, I was stealthed in a concrete house, waiting for the extractor to do it's thing (because it takes hours!) came back to wolves having torn out the wall, floor, and murdered me just as I walked back in the room. Leaving aside the nonsense that wolves can tear through concrete...
-

stb155Did not test it scientifically, but my felling is animals can not only see you in your house, but also trogh stones, cave walls, cliffs...
Not good in an game that uses stealth as only viable game mechanic to die to the white death machines. -
15 Jan, '22
BoistYep. Was fully boxed in a stone shelter in the arctic, squatting to avoid detection by polar bears roaming around. Didn't work. They still "saw" us and attacked the structure and ruined everything. Super OP and unfair.
-
17 Feb, '22
TocharaehI think one's risk of detection while in a structure needs to decrease based on the level of a structure. E.g., if you're hiding in a thatch home, you have a 90% chance of detection, vs. a stone structure where detection would be 40%, or something along that line. Animals should only "hear you" when you're moving about, reliant upon the types of surface you're trekking. If you're standing still, sound levels should be next to zero, and sneaking should be 0 until one begins to move, and then increase exponentially - based on surfaces walking over.
The AI just magically detecting and going aggro on you through solid objects is detrimental to quality of life, imho, and needs to be reigned in appropriately. I've already had friends quit the game over this very AI issue....so now I'm soloing (which is fine too, I get very zen in the game). -

Brandy (aka Firemoon19)i had no trouble in the forest possibly because certain things were not added or maybe i just chose a very safe spot for my base either way when i started in the desert everything changed and now i have animals ripping into my base right and left every few seconds even when im afk i walked away from my game for 2 minutes to tend to my bathroom needs came back and my Concrete building had been ripped into half my interior wood flooring was gone and they had destroyed my staircase to get downstairs so i had to jump down and then fight2 hyenas and 3 cougars before i could even start to try to rebuild
im sorry but a cougar or a hyena not even a bear should be able to break into a concrete structure its the best in the game and the animals being able to hear you through concrete walls when you have no windows and a reinforced door? that is unrealistic and just silly -

Zozzero@Rocket: "Animals actually hear you inside, rather than see you. In future adding better indication of this in UI."
If this is a useful suggestion, having the indication same way as now with the "eye" icon, there might be an "ear" icon, and for clarity, it could be actually a row of indication at the animals, so if Player triggers visibility alarm and noise alarm at the same time, we will understand. -

RobertI got animal inside the home with all doors and windows closed. That was interesting...
-
08 Apr, '22
glenn eylerI am also noticing this today, though it did not happen to me prior and now it is like they see me then start attacking and well 3 animals sitting there and your wall is done rather fast, especially when only starting off. I do just try sneaking away but i do hope this will be also be fixed.
-
20 Apr, '22
VillieldrI can be at the very back of my base that's over water and wolves and bears will still see me and attack.
-
25 Apr, '22
rbrtgrmnI agree with this. If you are in a house some distance away and looking at skill tree or stealthing or anything not crafting, you should not get aggro's on. I know these animals are genegenired to adAPT TO Icarus, but were they bred to hear our heartbeat from 200 feet?
-

steven burrowsI imagine reprograming mob actions is a lot of work and something Devs simply are not going to do. An easy solution for devs might be an item that can craft with herbalism bench like animal bait but repels. Programming the bait to repel instead of attract should be a simple matter. Make it bear urine or something to "scare" animals away.

DoberManFor what it's worth, a polar bear walked within yards of my elevate 1x1 wooden structure yesteday and did not aggro. I was pleasantly surprised.
I remained crouched and didn't move until it left the area, and the seemingly perpetual storms may have masked my presence (e.g., scent of me and meat on fire, etc.). I'm fine being attacked if my activity level (e.g., sound of my repairing the snow-covered wooden roof) or other RL triggers (e.g., smell of said polar bear's cousin being cooked on my MXC grill) result in an attack, but not if I'm still, quiet and otherwise unobstrusive. -

MaxConsidering the possible complexity of such a system a simple method would be to put a visibility reduction value if you are inside a house.
If you are in a structure with windows reduce your visibility by 50%.
If you are in a structure without windows reduce your visibility by 75%. -
19 Jul, '22
MaeharaprojektI get that exotics have altered Terran critters to a lesser or greater degree, but the animals on Icarus seem to have the same X-ray vision as Superman, Omniman, the Homelander, or even zombies in games like 7 Days to Die.

JJThis still happens, I get attacked often by wolves and rabbits get alerted - closed door and no window to view in.
