[Suggestion] Add POI's to the world
Please consider adding Points of Interest (POI's) to various places in the world. Perhaps an abandoned outpost building or a drop pod that crashed off course or something. These details would go al on way to adding some variety and depth to various zones and give nice rewards for exploration.
For instance. The arctic biome is great but felt a little too "dead". Perhaps if there was something of interest along the way like a crashed pod, that would give it a little more attention to detail.

DogVivor MergedSome landmarks could help to identify the regions you are in ( big tree not breakable ) strange stone shape and son on
Also, if the planet has been teraformed, maybe some artifacts and / or debris. Helping you in your future quests, also potentially breakable to get some parts and iron, steel and so on... -

Technoguru MergedIt would be fun to see some references of the previous prospecters visited in a particular biodome.
'Sol/Mo/K/Tama/ were here'
Old buildings that are damaged from the storms, a hole in the ground from digging, human bones, cave paintings with loot locations, .. -

Azrael MergedWhat's the deep purpose of the game ? To cartography planets
What happens if we succeed : a beer and restart ?
But what happens if we fail to come back ? What about sending another prospect here ?
And for theses second wave prospectors possibity to find traces of previous prospect, some of the constructions -the most durables ones-and even his dead body ?
The idea came to me from the Stone stairs description : "Stairs that may stays longer than you".
This made me ask my self about the print we let on this planet, and how it would be cool to find traces of someone who died here.
How implement this ?
-When a player fail a mission , stack his prospect in a queue for next prospections
-When a player load the prospect he can find buildings depleted by time.
Imagine you arrive at a planet and after some walk you've the chance to find a ruin base you can repair?
To end it's make the death of a player less sad because you know someone is maybe going to benefit from your -

ZugZugNZ MergedYes, I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking about random events to make the daily grind a bit more exciting. Right now there are the weather events which are cool, and you can get ambushed by a bear or wolf pack and have to run off the beaten path, or you may discover a hidden cave - but apart from that there isn't really much else to break up your daily routine of mining/grinding as you power up towards the mission objective.
In DayZ you had helicopter crashsites marked with smoke rising, these were awesome random spawns to find and the feeling you go when spotting smoke rising somewhere and the prospect of good loot or perhaps a firefight really drops the dopamine hits. I was thinking some kind of random thing you could find to spice things up in the early-mid game would be great and I thought an abandoned campfire with smoke rising with a dead prospector and maybe even a small chest would be really cool to stumble into on the rare occasion. -

Zinna MergedIntriguing. I like some of it. I think I disagree with the idea of building on someones old piece, but would be kinda cool to see pieces of what appears to be older attempts of colonies and stuff. More story telling by the things discovered not just mission details. Also what about the left remains of dead comrades of long ago. Even if they're unclickable other than an small bit of exploration xp. Each body somewhat tells it's own story just by its visual clues of it's condition and residual debris.

Matt MergedI like the idea of prior prospects and prospectors.
Dead prospectors and half constructed or half destroyed durable structures: stone, concrete, etc.
Perhaps collecting the remains of dead prospector could be a mission or bonus during a mission.
Could be interesting to find a prospector in a cave behind a bear or two with some tech, map, valuable notes or something to recover along with his remains. -

Macro MergedThe surface of Icarus should contain signs of previous occupation by human terraformers, researchers and prospectors. Currently the planet appears untouched by humans, which is contrary to the lore. Unique gameplay opportunities could be created by having procedurally-generated dwellings, crash sites, abandoned vehicles, etc. with a chance to spawn randomly somewhere on the map. These spawned objects/areas could be purely cosmetic, or they could offer the chance of rare loot (think helicopter crash sites in DayZ), basebuilding materials, or an opportunity to repair and rebuild an abandoned outpost. These features would enhance the mission-to-mission enjoyment of the map, emphasize the dynamic nature of the Icarus environment, and present a good opportunity for lore-building.
For added immersion, these features could even be based on ruins from previous prospectors' sessions, since players abandon their structures at the end of a prospect and they presumably take a while to decay awa -

SalJam MergedI was thinking this myself on the last BW. It would be cool to see something out of the norm, that we can investigate / interact with.
You could even go one step further and use a player model as a quest giver (I was here to look for this prospect, take the map location and complete it), then the NPC is gone when you next go back there or something similar. This would add to the lore and give a bonus quest on a prospect. -

Falconburger MergedMaybe after the owner(s) head back into orbit their structures can be tagged with a degree of accelerated degradation - not destroying but simulating a longer period of absence. Even stone structures should degrade imo. Game-wise you will probably finish a missions, hit orbit and then come right back on your next mission so finding ruins would be cool - even if it was just the skeletal foundations and pillars that remained... maybe a smattering of resources...

fornost gsd MergedWhen the scientists were terraforming Icarus they must have lived somewhere.
So I am suggesting a ruined group of very high tech buildings. Animals would be attracted to these ruins in especially large packs, there would be things left inside that need retrieval. -

Kralzar MergedI think it would be nice if you randomly had some relics/destroyed buildings based off the previous builds you did on the map. If you built up in an area then went back to the station. when you dropped again maybe you would see some of your old structures all destroyed and rotten with growth around them. Might be even cooler if you could take the info from other friends games and see some of your friends bases in this way. I added an image based off a visual bug that I thought looked cool and would be something interesting to stumble on.

W2D2 MergedWould certainly add to the story line to find ruins of the terraforming factories/machines.
Also having some cabin ruins in key locations would make it a players choice to use/repair it or build your own.
An alternative approach would be a few green zones where building skeletons will persist between prospects. -

Falconburger MergedHow about adding some *mission independent* random points of interest. Examples - a dead prospector with some random things (tools, ore, etc) in their backpack. Small fallen satellite bits that can be harvested for a handful of resources. Ruined structures left behind by former prospectors (give them a little bit of stone framework and wooden walls\roofs so that can deteriorate naturally. Small boosts for the player and interesting to find. I play a lot of 7 days to die and the many POIs in that keep up the interest. Every one tells its own little story.

DZM MergedOh no they will not do this because it MAKES SENSE to have people doing more than just running from cave to cave doing endless mining. It would actually give the hunting/mining simulator a few kewl surprises.
And the best part of your suggestion is that no two discoveries would be the same. GREAT IDEA!!! But sadly don't hold your breath. -

Vellius MergedSince the games are stored in the cloud... what about randomly giving an other session map (With resources respawned) containing a max number of damaged structures...
Repairing these ruined walls/floors would cost 50-80% of original materials. -
12 Jan, '22
SkyWillAlso, the POIs should not be in the same place each time. Much like how the exotics spawn in different locations each time. Suggestions:
Wolf den (like from the wolf boss)
Mega worm.
Enemy prospectors.
The bug creature we see in the opening video.
Falling meteor ( danger like a drop pod landing, insta kill any structures, players lose 90% health. Sonic boom only after it explodes.
Radioactive / poisonous/ acidic pools
Dead area where the Terrazone goes way to the original planet’s surface.
Traps left by other prospectors -

TinyBitQuantum MergedPlay Among Trees, and admire it's sense of unique discoverable places, then apply what you find. For instance when you discover bears in that game, and it feels like they have definitive territories.
The problem comes mostly from how animals are mixed up and continually liberal sprinkled across the map. it does not feel like wolves live in this world, and like following them around would reveal an interesting ecosystem. Instead it feels like what they are - bland obstacles from moving freely across the landscape. -

Falconburger MergedI'd like to find ruins of previous prospects and the bodies of the fallen. At the start of the prospect spawn small or large buildings with a combination of thatch, wood and stone materials that will weather in the ..er... weather. Depending on when the player stumbles on it it could still be viable or just a skeleton of a building. Start the stone parts at 10% health maybe. They could contain small bits of gear and loot to help someone along. A human skeleton among the bushes or in a cave with a knife or half used oxygen cylinder would be awesome. Like the awesome image of the dead prospector in the opening video . Make it rare but make it interesting. It would make the world feel more lived in and less of a clean empty slate every time you land. Sure... put a bear in that ruin if you must... ;-)

Ketrai Merged- Basically randomized points of interest that have a chance to spawn on any given prospect. (These ones centered around nature.)
Points of interest ideas :
- Caves with munched corpses, often guarded by predators. You can find damaged equipment, or scraps of packaged food here.
- Patches of rare herbs/animals. Often guarded by predators, or hidden deep in caves, in spots you need to build to to reach. Spawns unique animals or plants that have mutated. Can be used to spice foods to give them an extra effect.
- Cliffs that are difficult to scale, requiring a mixture of building, jumping, fighting enemies to conquer. But at the top they contain a larger than usual amount of ore.
The game is currently quite repetitive, having a reason to explore or finding stuff you'd normally not make yourself can greatly add to the experience. -

Ketrai Merged- Basically randomized points of interest that have a chance to spawn on any given prospect. (These ones centered around man-mad structures.)
Points of interest ideas :
- Broken down shuttles, often guarded by predators, or landing atop a cliff that's impossible to reach without building a scaffolding up there. Contains damaged workshop equipment. It's too damaged to be salvaged on station proper, but bringing it back has a chance to unlock recipes (including ones you can't unlock normally with ren/exotics for future workshop items) If you already own the recipe, you get a small amount of exotics/ren instead.

Ketrai Merged- Basically randomized points of interest that have a chance to spawn on any given prospect. (These ones centered around nature.)
Points of interest ideas :
- Supply package. Often guarded by predators. This is a more ambitious idea, but it hinges on player to player interaction, indirectly. People can build supply packages in T3/4, and let a balloon inflate to take them away. Each item in a slot has a chance to get lost based on tier. Large stacks of raw materials loose between 30-80% of the stack. If all items get lost, the supply package will get lost too. If the package isn't lost, it's added to a list of packages. it will have a chance spawn randomly in another player's prospect near a mission objective with a trail of smoke, after which it's removed from the list permanently. Send people stuff you don't need before leaving! Make the world feel alive! -

Duckett MergedMy teammate and I have spoken many times while playing that it would be really cool if when we were exploring places on the map, if we were to run across ruins from the original team that was trying to terraform Icarus. We realize that is could possibly cause more lag and stuff, but imagine running across an old building that is partially there but finding a cabinet with some supplies or a letter or something of interest. Maybe something that would help us during our current mission or just anything. Maybe an old knife or some extra ammo or a canteen, or possibly a food pack. When I saw the Narrative Chain Missions you are working on, it reminded me of the wish to find various things/ruins around the maps to remind us of the initial survivors. Just some thoughts.

Emre MergedThe rock, trees and even brushes are the same in every time you launch a map. To make it replayable and make exploring fun we should encounter with scattered loot boxes, landing ship crash sites, maybe dead bodies of the other prospects(?) or even randomly generated caves could help with it. These kind of stuffs will be fun while exploring the map.

H1VEI think seeing like an old camp with like overgrown bodies would really add to the planet being a silent killer. Maybe even add a few food items in the camp, like a nutrition bar or some bottled water, these items could also be crafted in the late game and provide some good food and water buffs.

Morten Mwould be cool, but not if they are on same spot on all missions.. has to be % chance of placement and random placements of each POI for it to be cool... unless they put a lot of different stuff and achievement to find them all... sucks for us that has discovered the full map already - but cool idea..

MrPrettyI agree that we need more Points of Interest. It would be ideal if we also built them... even if it meant there was a very specific template. We should drop, build a base. Expand the base... fix the base... build a remote base... upgrade the main base... The new bases should get npcs or equipment that are unique and require something from the surrounding terrain.
I get the storms are supposed to destory things but the game would give a much greater sense of accomplishment if we had more metagoals to build towards. -

aderyda MergedThe problem is that buildings are destroyed very quickly, and no experience is given for repairs. The world is empty and very boring. Remove the stupid mistake that the workbench cannot be used outdoors. Add villages, towns and camps with bots. Now there is nothing in Ikarus except a small variety of animals. Going on a trip there is nothing new and interesting. The meaning of the game is only to pump the level endlessly and that's it. Conan Exiles is much more diverse, but there is a hell of a thing there!

casipausenI would like the map to have a layer with names. I know some areas of the maps have names. But I dont know if they are player-created or if they have been named by the devs.
I would really like to have a new layer to the map with names of the lakes, valleys, plateaus, rivers, etc. It would make the game more immersive for me when I could navigate by named places. And also an option to show the name of the current area on the compass and/or the minimap (when you implement it). Last should have option to turn on or off. -
