[Bug] Fire Textures Horrible FPS
When I take out a torch and light it my game goes down to 20 fps, i get 60 fps normally (I'm on medium graphics). I have an RX580 (not a bad card, can run war thunder and modern warfare at 100+ fps max graphics). The rest of the game is fine besides early rendering.
----
DEV RESPONSE: A potential fix has been suggested - Within the AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition, be sure to DISABLE 'Radeon Image Sharpening' - may also need to disable player light shadows

Brad Mergedshot a deer with a fire arrow. only saw random puffs of fire as it ran when it died there was a weird red box around it? i have bad textures and an fps around 27 so it may be related to whatever is causing the really bad textures issue. sadly my game looks awful, im sure your aware of that bug, wanted to raise this incase its not the same cause

Uberfish MergedAny kind of lighting from fire causes my FPS to drop drastically. If I use a hand torch, the game FPS drops so much it turns into a slideshow. If my friend turns on his torch near me, the FPS drop drastically. During a lightning storm, the flash from the lightning causes the game to freeze for about 5-6 seconds.

Josh MergedFor me everything with a fire effect causes my game to go from stable FPS to slide show, eg camp fire, fire pit and even the furnaces. My FPS drops considerably when looking at these objects and sometimes goes back to stable if I re load the world with the fire still running. (Makes game unplayable with any of these items active)

Its pretty much any fire effects whether it be me or someone else or a tree burning the FPS just tanks. I turned down the settings graphically wise and it is still tanking fps to single digits. This happens with FRS on and off. I generally have POV set to 110 when I play since i am on an ultrawide monitor. So my setup is

Squigglypotamus MergedFire and flame effects cause progressively worsening graphics FPS, This is immediately noticeable when I pull a torch out at night or in a cave. Within minutes, the game becomes all but unplayable. I was walking back to my drop ship, at night and I was getting super jerky graphic renderings of about 1 to 4 frames per second (estimated). I do not notice issues with other lighting, such as water reflections or ambient sunlight and shadows. Only open flames and forest fire effects do this and it seems to compound, the longer that I am exposed to them. If I put out the torch and wait a few seconds, everything is fine, until the torch is turned back on, again, With the international chip shortage, I have not been able to upgrade my system yet, so I have set the settings to low or medium, as best I can. The game has been playable, but a little choppy at times. Other than when fire is present, I have found it to be workable. Is there a way to reduce the animation or light sources?

Dordanov MergedSame Issue, also with an AMD card. (Ryzen 5 3600, RX 5700 XT, 64GB RAM).
Was pretty bad in BW3, then issue seemed to be almost gone in BW4. Back with a vengeance in BW5. Effect seems worse when in multiplayer when playing as the host. Solo is a bit less impactful, but still very noticable.
Pretty noticable with a handheld torch and from the standing torches. An activated Firepit also creates a very big performance hit and result in <10 fps when I stand near it. When deactivating the firepit my FPS instantly shoots back up to around 60.
So seems to be fire/light related. Impact on performance from the Fireplace for example is much less noticable weirdly enough. -

Tanathos MergedUPDATE on BW5 torch/campfire/floor torch performance issues:
Torch and campfire light resulted in a massive framerate drop during BW3 and BW4. The situation appeared to be better during BW5 though.
My settings for BW5 were the same as per previous BWs:
FSR activated to ultra quality (I also tried lower options) with a quality sharpness ranging from 80 to 100 (needed to try different solutions).
Funny thing I found a way to make the massive framerate drop disappear:
When activating a torch I pressed the windows button to highlight the windows bar and check the task manager to keep an eye on RAM and GPU usage. Just highlighting the Windows bar resulted in an overall framerate gain. Could it be possible that the windowed mode has some inconsistencies when calculating the light resolution for torches and campfires? (sorry if it may sound stupid but I'm not a game programmer) -

Walter MergedUpon activating an equipped torch, I lose approximately 15 frames - this effect also seems multiplied for however many players that use a lit torch. Additionally, whenever I drop a torch, my frames take a massive hit, going from a steady 60 FPS all the way to the very uncomfortable range of 25 and 30 FPS. Similar to the first issue, when more torches are added, the issue becomes considerably more severe - given around ten torches on the ground, I reached a shockingly slow rate of 2 FPS. I feel like this will be a major source of performance issues for anyone who wants to play this game.

BeerdedFury MergedAfter the latest round of patches, I've seen a relatively decent boost in FPS. While I would think that a 3080 Ti would be more than sufficient, it's a step in the right direction...
Until a tree gets lit on fire. After that, I take an approximate 50% or so FPS hit. Where I was getting around 70ish FPS, I'm now getting 35. Wasn't sure if this was a major issue for more people, but if so, it's a fairly substantial hit to performance.
Getting far enough away from the area seems to help alleviate the issue. -

James MergedRunning DX12 with everything cranked on a 6800XT (OC) I will run at a stable 50+ FPS (no ray tracing) enabled.
Gameplay for the most part is fantastic / stable, however when a fire is running, or lightning occurs. Or if a building comes on fire the game immediately becomes unplayable slumping to 1 - 2 fps until the fire is over. This is intermittent and not 100%. This seems to be focussed mainly towards AMD GPU's from what i can read as friends I play with all running NVIDIA see no issues.
It seems likely that this may be a bug in relation to the way this game handles the dynamic lighting and particle effects with light based entities, and may clash with drivers from AMD. Please work closely ASAP to resolve this! -

Have very unstable FPS walking/running thru Icarus.
Solo has stable around 100Fps, but as soon as someone joins me I go down to 30-50 fps. And if I by mistake shoot a bear with a flame arrow it goes down to 15-20 FPS. And if the tree and bushes catch on fire it stays on 15-25 FPS most as long as it burns and this affects all the others in my session also.
So there has to be better work done to make this feel better. Don't understand why the GPU and CPU in this screenshot don't use more of the GPU or CPU power. -

SpafbiLights (torches, fires, and electric lights) can sometimes trigger high GPU utilization and extremely low FPS. This behavior is inconsistent; sometimes when there are multiple lights on, turning on another light will trigger the performance issue, but turning the light off does not restore performance. Turning off all lights does restore performance. Video showing settings and demonstrating the issue: https://youtu.be/0YSu5nQh0ww

JP MergedI managed to optimize the game settings so that it looks great and never drops below 60fps at 4k res and generally stays above 75 fps. My only complaint is the torches. Even with the lighting effects off and the Disable Player Light feature on, when I drop a lit torch or there are any other players with torches around me that are lit, my fps instantly drops to unplayable levels, around 5-20fps. Since I have selected the above options, carrying the torch, alone, while lit doesnt mess with my FPS, as it did before, however anytime I throw it down so I can light an area im working in it makes the game instantly unplayable. This seems to, for me, be soley an issue with the torch and is worse with the Wood Rag torch than the Wood Torch, however it happens with both

Francisco MergedI play Icarus with the settings set to HIGH and I don't have any performance issues, my fps stays above 120. But when I equip a hand torch and turn it on, the fps drops to a point that is unplayable and in case of being in danger it would be impossible to fight with any creature.

David MergedHey, we have an ENORMOUS FPS drop when fires and torches are lit, please fix it !
Or add a option to disable them in the game please.
I play to about 70fps and when torches and fire are lit, it goes down to 3-20 FPS, that's really unplayable -

420inPortland MergedStill having frame drops so bad I cant hardly play on RX580 8g Red Devil. Any time there is more than one flame effect on screen, so 2 hand torches, hand torch and standing torch, fire ring and torch, etc, it laaaaags. The only exception is the large horizontal fire pit, the one with the spit over it. It also seems to happen when a torch of fire effect is in use while global illumination is happening, so anytime during the daylight hrs. with a torch, etc, Also when there is a flash of lightning. At night as long as there arent 2 flame emitting sources the lag doesn't happen. Also running a X-470 Gigabyte gaming ultra, 1800X CPU, 4X8g 2444mhz Vengence ram, EVO 970 boot, 1 tb SSD games, and 1tb samsung SSD Sata, 3tb Seagate HDD sata. (Still having a bunch of visual noise in foilage if AA isn't cranked to the stops as well.)
