[Suggestion] Storm, Smelting, Processing while asleep
The time of day and the time required for storms to pass, metals to smelt, other items to auto craft, cook food, and status effects are not tied to one another at all. If you go to bed at 18:00 and wake at 07:00, nothing else in the game progresses. Storms should pass. Metal should smelt. Etc. This also really breaks the sense of immersion. If this change is made though, it might be good to rebalance the food spoiling times since that will happen rapidly during sleep hours or sleep could still not impact food spoiling times.

dotvihar MergedRight. The storm event do not follow the sleep mechanism. If I go to sleep to skip the night the storm does not go away.

ErwinB MergedWhen a storm is coming or when you put raw food on fireplaces, you go to sleep and the storm stays in the same place of the weather timeline, while the food is still in the same state.
I think the cooked food and the fuel resources can be calculated by the hours slept at night.
Meanwhile, a random destruction in houses could be good for storms while sleeping, making you being awake till storm passes while repairing, It's just a suggestion. -

Mercy MergedI personally like how the mechanic is currently working. I like that time passes instantly leaving everything in tact as it was when I went to sleep.

Panerdar MergedStorm should not be at the exact point when you wake up as it was when you go to sleep.
-

Guy MergedI only agree with the idea if your shelter will not take damage from the storm. You shouldn't have a "Get out of Storm" free card.
Maybe sleeping causes a 5x speed boost to time, but if your house starts taking damage, you wake up,ike you normally would if your house was falling apart around you. -

Roballistic MergedAgree with GUY on this, but everything, such as refining ore should happen through the night as well as probably others.
-

Panerdar MergedSo far the only shelter that takes damage is wood or thatch and would be fine with it keeping you awake if your bldg is falling down around you. Dumb that nothing changes while you sleep other than the time of day. Anything in a crafting queue should utilize that time and dumb for storm to be at the same exact point as it was when you went to sleep 6 hours before.

Skylar MergedI wish they would fix this. If we are lucky enough to get a storm during the sleeping hours, we should be able to go to sleep and have the storm be gone when we wake.
-
30 Dec, '21
Philip Vyas MergedThis is more a bug rather than a suggestion I suppose, but I feel that storms should pass or progress the amount of time you sleep. A storm has started, I have gone to sleep, woken up at 7:00am and the storm had not progressed at all it was still at its beginning.
-
30 Dec, '21
Bjorn MergedIf the storm would continue would you expect the regular amount of storms to happen in the night while you sleep, rip your thatch/wood house apart and wake you up? Could be cool, but quite a different angle to take.

K.M. MergedTime needs to pass UNIVERSALLY for all things when going to sleep.
When you cook something, or start crafting, if going to sleep advances 8 hours, everything should process in those 8 hours, the cooking done, the crafting complete, the crops have grown, the weather has moved forward 8 hours, etc. -
17 Feb, '22
samyalaActually, you this for you own advantage. If there is a storm, wait for it to end and then sleep. This way, you'll wake up with a clear weather. And use the night to work at your benches while you're out gathering stuff during the day. Go to sleep a few minutes before seven for the buff benefit.

Zero MergedHere me out here, i have over 300+ hours into this game and i love it. me and my friends pretty much play for hours every night since it was released. but one thing that gets on my nerves is that if you go to sleep at night durning a storm you wake up still in that storm, so if you go to sleep at night and wake in the morning, that time has passed right? well should'nt the storm have passed as well?
-
19 Feb, '22
Tovak MergedSo that wind storm lasted for 13 hours huh?....All storms should pass over the time you sleep. Its very immersion breaking to go to bed during a storm, only to wake up hours later and the same storm is going.
-

Leonidas MergedBut what do you do with the damages done by the storm ?
The thing i'm ok with is that sleeping doesn't do anything but to pass time, storms are not affected, but also food, water and oxygen are not moving while sleeping, which also isn't really helping immersion -
22 Feb, '22
Vapok MergedI'm okay with this suggestion, and also ok with the implied idea of having sleep use food, water, and oxygen..
But more importantly, even without all of these, I'd love at least a little "break" when sleeping. It's jarring to lay down and immediately get back up and suddenly it's morning.
Even minecraft has a 5-10 second black screen and some music that passes.
Valhiem also has a sleep mechanic that DOES cause storms and other actions to speed up, but doesn't cause food/buff drain.
Not saying Icarus has to be like other games, but the sleep mechanic is really fast, and really jarring. -

f.reiz MergedI think it would be nice and realistic if you go to sleep during the storm, the storm passes after a night of sleep, just like it would in real life. It removes a bit of immersion when it's night, a wild storm brews in which makes you want to have a good night sleep so you can continue your work outside your base in the morning after the storm has passed, but the storm doesn't move an inch even after an 8 hour sleep. It has become a bit frustrating after 200 hours of gameplay and takes me out of the game a bit. A small detail but would make the game more immersive and realistic.

Terry MergedWhy is it that when you sleep for say 8-10 hours, you wake up and the Storm is in exactly the same position as before you slept. Same with Furnace progression, Food cooking progression, etc ?
Its like time stands still during sleep - which is ridiculous.
This is really quite a bad bug in the game and should be addressed. -

NfiniT#5890Other than storms, I agree. Storms should continue to rage on. Sleep shouldn't be a quick shortcut to avoid storms.
HOWEVER, if storms are bypassed, it should quickly run through the damage process and apply all the damage to buildings, structures, deployables, etc. as it would have if you watched it go by without repairing. -

Terry@NfiniT#5890 - Or simply dont allow you to sleep during a storm.

Dark_LightnerI must say it’s weird to sleep and see that the food/ores didn’t smell as intended.
The fact that you can fast forward the weather is a great addition too, but don’t forget that in that case the house could brake while you sleep.
For the spoiling I don’t think it’s a good idea.
You must go « far » in the game progression before unlocking the icebox that can keep your food without spoiling.
But without it your food (at least I experienced that) don’t stop to spoil.
If it spoil while you sleep then you gonna wake up with no more food to eat.
Anyway with the cooking/smelting I’m 100% with it. -

DoberManSeems reasonable that if positive activities/actions progress while we're sleeping (e.g., smelting, cooking, storm passing), then the potentially detrimental activities/actions should as well, such as new storms passing by, house taking damage, food spoiling, etc. Any disconnect of positive and negative effects runs counter the the immersion goal, reason and logic.
That said, it is a game that sends us to a planet in a high tech vessel, and, yet, we have to craft prehistoric stone implements until we're able to earn the currency to buy them at the station (i.e., it's a game, so logic need not always apply). -

MaxI find sleeping should just be removed, not only does it allow you to bypass the need to have to face danger at night and use torches but now everyone wants storms to pass, food to cook, ore to smelt in an artificially induced fast forward of time. It would basically be cheesing the game every few hours of play to get things done quicker and easier. I get why everyone wants it, just think that it negates the whole idea of the game principles.

billyI suggest that the characters are unable to sleep while a storm is passing (and also then wake up if weather comes through) but crafting can continue. Best of all worlds.

JPIt should also simulate storm conditions and food/oxygen/water consumption and allow you to die or have your house burn up in your sleep.

TriickstaMaybe trying to sleep in a thatch or wooden structure shouldnt be possible or gets interrupted cause of the destruction ?

JP
It should also simulate storm conditions and food/oxygen/water consumption and allow you to die or have your house burn up in your sleep.
With a modification. You wake when you get damage from starvation or thirst, you don't straight up die! Also you should wake up when your house is on fire. You are asleep not in a coma! -
29 Jan
SlynchieI would definitely agree that items should cook/smelt/process overnight!

TendisMahlI like the idea of time passing while you sleep. Since all players are required to sleep it would make sense for storms to pass, crafting to continue, fuel to run out, food to spoil, water wheels to clog up, etc. during the time you are collectively sleeping. Storm damage could be based on the structure that’s providing your bed(roll) with “cover”; if it starts taking damage, or you lose cover, you would wake up. A low-level option for food spoilage could be salted meat: meat + silica in the fireplace greatly extends the life of meat but increases water consumption. Plus you have the drying rack. And I could see the mission time being tied to game time and not real life time. “We need to gather 500 more fur to complete the mission. We’re running out of time! Can we afford to sleep through the night or do we need to hunt in the dark to make it?” Let real time become a motivation instead of the artificially-induced “well, my landing pod landed 800 km from the mission site”.

ffYeah, it's kinda studip. You have to loose time anyway
-

krudif sleeping needs speed op nearly all things while you sleep then mission timer need to do as well other vice you are gaining without loss that's
getting further away from survival aspect.
i like to see the cons like
Aggressive animals need to be enabled to attack the house ore you if they get to you.
Will get players to build more defensive structures.
Make players go out in to storms and play at night sins they don't got enough mission time to sleep ore skip storms out.
Making players strategize more on the survival
radars pause
