Building immune to weather damage - Exploit

I discovered that after creating a small wooden structure, then placing a drying rack outside of an open doorway (no door), I can cause the structure to resist all weather damage (not sure about lightning strikes though as I was not able to test), but not damage from falling trees, if I am "interacting" with the drying rack from inside the structure throughout the entire storm event. Have tried 2 times now.
