Blueprint points
I suggest that we can use the spare blueprint points we have on each craft as an amelioration like for exemple: The furnace if i use more blueprint points on it to upgrade the craft it'll ask for less ressources and it'll be faster to craft etc... or anything else that would come to your mind !

MichaelI say level the recipes. Give each recipe an exp bar. When you hit an exp threshold, permit the player to buy the next level of that recipe with a blueprint point. Each time it levels, it becomes more resource efficient (e.g. bone sickle taking 10 bones at level 10 instead of 20 at level 1).
Lore-wise, it makes sense that the Prospector would get better at crafting stuff with practice, leading to less resource waste overall.
