  This could also allow for flattening the ground for better builds, crop plot placement, completely removing rock/ore for respawn, possibly finding more ore underground, and making a basement/root cellar for storage. This could be done by adding more "features" to the shovel/metal pickaxe or creating a new tool similar to a hoe, possibly even a combination of the sorts.

  I think being able to lay a gravel pathway, would be very useful. Gravel could be created from Stone much light sticks are created from wood. The pathways could be decorative and functional, such as showing a guide way to a mine. They can provide a modest speed bonus once created say 10% movement speed
