Ya a pause button would be great for singleplayer (and SP only). It wouldn't pause the countdown timer, but would make it so that I could use the bathroom or grab a drink without fear of dying.

I would like to see the option to pause the game if you are playing solo. Without needing to log out and back in again.
Life happens, and having a quick break without worrying what might occur during your bathroom break or screaming kid/spouse would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, this is a much needed option.
Please don't expect people to constantly stay focused on the game. This is just not how life works. And having to quit and restart for a quick break is not great and not always possible.
If someone is waiting in front of the door i can't yell "playing Icarus ... please wait until i kill the wolf i'm fighting" (or the storm is gone ... or whatever situation that needs constant activity)

Please let us pause the game at any time, walk away from the PC and come back later to continue where we left.

Very much needed - could perhaps be expanded to a "host can pause" option when hosting a server. The load times on the game are prohibitive to logging out all the time!

When UPS is at the door, the phone rings, or when babies need attention - it would be nice to be able to PAUSE the game instead of having to log off or stand in-game among threats! Please give us an opportunity to pause gameplay!

it would be nice to be able to pause the game when playing alone. otherwise you can't take your eyes off the game for a second.

Plus I imagine that completely messes with the whole drop-in listen server setup, as "just add a pause button" doesn't work like that when you're online

I think this is a good idea, but with the caveat that it would only be a good idea for the designated "offline" mode I think is what it's called in the main menu. If you're not doing an offline prospect, and are just playing regularly well then you should just have to leave.

I mean, players are able to drop into your world and such. At least how it currently is anyway with the drop in and drop out, it falls in line with that - the not being able to pause thing. So for offline mode that is fully solo, sure.... but not for the general mode.

It takes me longer to exit/reload the prospect than to make my coffee. A pause option for the solo player would be most welcome.

please also add the option for multiplayer

the host can ask all the people playing on the server, if everybody accepts, there will be a break until everybody clicked "ready" again

and be sure the mission timer also stopps then...

Hi, it would be great if the evacuation timer paused when you aren’t on the game. For example, with the way it currently works, if something comes up irl and the player can’t hop back on in time to evacuate the planet, then everything they had is lost. However, I understand that having so many different games running might put your servers under pressure, so maybe allow for dedicated servers?

Being able to pause the game in single player would be very nice. I don't care about the evac timer, but it would be nice to be able to step away for 5 minutes w/out worrying that I might starve or get jumped by a bear while I'm away.

Is there any way to allow us to pause the timer while we are offline? Even if it means the timer has to be reduced in time when the setting is turned on? I am really enjoying the game. Its been some of the best survival experience that I've had in a game, but I also have 40 hour + a week job and a family. My friends and I sometimes might not be able to get together to have a play session for weeks.

If we were in the middle of a prospect and run out of time, i don't know the next time we'll be able to get together and play. So at that point we have the option to risk having our characters deleted forever because we weren't able to get back before some arbitrary timer ran out while we weren't playing or we leave and never complete the mission. I see some of these drops give you 21 days to complete. Does that mean we will never get to play those because we can't be garenteed we will have enough time to play them completly in a 21 day window?

First off I don't understand the reason to be able to play offline if the game doesn't pause. I would just start up a private online match for no difference unless im missing something (edit) i just realized maybe you can load this game without being online and still play maybe thats why, nonetheless, (end edit) I just want a pause feature for all the constant interruptions in life, it doesn't even have to pause the time left thing or whatever if thats a global timer for everyone. I just would like to not get killed by a pack of wolves when i'm level 5 and have to sneeze or turn my head away for one second from the screen, valheim does that, if i want to pause i have to exit the server and then when i'm ready i have to sit there waiting for it to load again. this triggers me to no end. this isn't mortal kombat games in the 90's and souls games can do it without pause cuz its not a grinding survival game for goodness sake! well thats my 2 jay cents. thank you i do enjoy the game

I really enjoy the timer for every mission, but sometimes there are things IRL that happen that make it impossible to get back before your mission timer expires, in turn deleting your character that you worked so hard for. So here is my idea on how to remedy this potential issue...

Example; You select a mission which has 1 week to be finished, you play a little bit and you end up having 6 days left on the timer. Suddenly something pops up in your life, and you can no longer access your pc within those 6 days, not possible. I propose you add a feature that will automatically pause the timer, say, when the mission has shortened by 50% since the last time you were on. So last time I was on, there was 6 days, 12 hours left. On day 3, hour 6, the timer will pause and remained paused until you come back to the mission.

But! This auto pause feature only happens once, so you still retain the perma-death experience, while having a fail safe.

If I press escape (maybe I need to do something else like make a cuppa or food), the game doesn't pause. I'm still dying from dehydration, hunger, oxygen deprivation. We need to be able to pause the game.

I'm a fan of truly difficult survival games, and rarely agree with things that reduce the difficulty of the game but this would actually reduce the difficulty the game poses on real life. In multiplayer, you can coordinate buddies to watch your back when afk but that is not an option on solo. Hoping this gets more consideration. If it's an engine/design issue and it will take time to problem solve, I get that but shelving this idea is a bad idea in my opinion. Absolutely loving the game though!!!

Be able to pause the game in Offline mode. Working from a home office, it's essential that pause is possible. It's also very convenient in general, seeing as wild animals see you through your house - you have to exit the game to safely "pause".

There needs to be a way to pause without jumping all the way out. I have died too many times when hitting escape to let my dogs out only to come back and find that I need to respawn and loss XP.

Also, it needs to be a true pause. This morning I jumped back into a solo game after mining a pile of ore and was at the mouth of the cave ready to start making rounds trips back to my camp. Well guess what? As soon as I was in I was being slammed in the back by worms and dies in 5 seconds. No doubt, after I re-spawn I wont be surprised if none of my secured ore is even still there in the box when I get back.

I think I read in the Steam Workshop comments that people have lives away from the game. I agree and THAT is why we need to have a pause of some kind. I have gone to the toilet and returned only to find I am dead. lol

I know that a pause button could be exploited, but if you guys make some conditions like shelter, campfire, sleeping etc, will be very nice.

I often need to get phone calls, text messages, get water or go to the toilet.

Going to the character's selection screen do the trick but I need to wait the prospet to load, the cave's worms respawn, and all the annoyaces of the "new" load.

Maybe allow pause when in bed…. This would make you run back to base or set up camp before you can pause.

Or let it take 2 minutes to resume after pause…

But if you can pause through quit to desktop then there is no real reason not to add the pause button…

Really need a pause (for Solo games, at least) for quick transient interruptions, like SMS, phone calls, dog wants to go out, "do I look fat in this", kid has set the kitchen on fire again. The character loading screen pause is okay, but sometimes the interruption is just enough that you need to take your eyes off the screen for 10seconds, then hop right back in.

It's completely reasonable that there is no pause for multi-player.

I'm enjoying the game. I prefer to play missions vs. open sandbox-style but my life can get complicated quickly and sometimes I don't have time to sit at my computer for several days in a row. When I do play, it might be for 30-60 minutes. Offline play should have a true solo mode where when you log out and the timer stops. Let those of us with busy lives have a chance to enjoy all the functionality of the game.

Also, an offline solo mode should allow you to pause on esc. It gets annoying to have to log out of my character and back in every time I have to step away for a few minutes (which happens on the regular). We want the challenge of missions. Some of us can't effectively commit to playing with others because our time isn't enough to be effective for a group. I've already lost everything once to this.
