[Suggestion] Night vision in helmet
Make it possible to add a night vision feature built into the glass (or whatever material it's made of) in the helmet, by unlocking it late in the tech tree or by buying/crafting an upgrade at orbital stations. So you can see better at night.
This should be possible ~200 years into the future.

This should still be on the radar. How many years in the future, with a fancy 3d printer (t4) and we still can't do night vision? Actually, I think it should be t3, but at least t4. -

Meow MergedHello nothing crazy, but it would be cool to implement NVGs so we can use them at night time.

Phillip McKenzie Merged100% or at least a brightness modifier in the settings because I cant see anything at night

MIckhaelKinda normal addition on a helmet in distant future, when human race terraform planets.
Hope tier V to be great with that :) -

Theodore BendonThe Higher-level Lamp and the Flashlight would be Augmented by something like this, and it is Desperately Needed in Prometheus, where the Light Sources just don't have the Range to allow you to see well-enough in the Swamps at night. The Volcanic Area is Worse, as it is almost Pitch Black in much of it, and Hostiles are all over the place, requiring some Ridiculous Strategies to safely progress in the area.

maeharaprojektIt is really, really bizarre that we have ore, fish, and critter scanners but nightvision was not a thing even for the First Cohort.
This technology has existed in usable formats for the battlefield since about the middle of World War 2. Admittedly these were some of the most primitive image intensifiers but it still highlights how utterly strange it is that affordable nightvision devices, which civilians have had easy access to since the late 20th-century, are not available at all to 22nd-century interplanetary prospectors in extreme-risk, alien environments.
We can craft electronics, specialized radar, a detector that can gives us the general direction of specific ores, navigation beacons, and etc... but not NVGs?
We are not necessarily asking for the nifty quad-nods that special operations soldiers get today, in the 2020's, or even thermal-imaging, but some sort of 1980s-era Gen3 nightvision, like AN/PVS-7's, should have been the about the minimum. -

Diamond_HammerThis could totally be a craftable upgrade to add to the helmet in the alteration bench.

OscarI used flare arrows at night. Usually worked fine. But nightvision would be interesting thing. Maybe battery powered plus tier four or/and upgrade for helmet ( which would add a slot for helmet to put a battery) or something like this)

KoburaHead slots are currently the weakest available. At least feet have options for fall damage. Adding nightvision would compete very favorably for head slots for people who don't: need world boss spotting, have access to alteration bench but not antibiotic pills (??? balance consideration needed here badly)...
(related/unrelated: storm visor needs a lot of help to be viable, though it is a spectacular idea for an alteration) -

maeharaprojektI have been wondering lately if the very weird lack of certain 19th and 20th Century technologies in the setting of Icarus is due to Earth experiencing something like the Age of Strife, in Warhammer 40K, or the neo-barbarism that swept the Inner Sphere, in Battletech, after the First Succession War.

Rocius D.This suggestion has been hanging around for a little over 4 YEARS.... lol. Still seems like a legit idea, and well within the scope of what the tech our characters would have the ability to make.

FrancisAnd or the option to add talents to lanterns to last longer, or auto light when in and out of caves.

saray29Make it switchable between Night Vision and Thermal (2 different technologies each with their strengths and weaknesses) amd yes.

Inner voiceI think it should work the same way as battery-powered lamps and flashlights - they should charge at a charging station and take up a lighting slot. The range should be longer than that of flashlights and lanterns, and animals won't react to the light (due to its absence), but the image quality should be poor—black and white with slight interference (for balance).

PhilosopherConsidering I recently found out that the Battery-Powered Lantern has been nerfed and gives off much less light, making underwater stuff difficult to do (when swimming to an underwater cave I pretty much have to turn up the gamma) this might be a nice to have now and could also work underwater.
Technically you don't even need to create slots for the helmet, you can simply use the existing light-slot. When turned on, up the gamma, make everything green. In the future you could add a buff like less aggression or detection when turned on.
X-Ray goggles, now that would be a bit more challenging. Then again, those come built-in with Slinkers. Until you tame then, then they lose their superpowers and get stuck on the first pebble they meet. -

ArkasI think the best way to implement this it to have the night vision goggles max out your gamma while active; that way the caves can be seen clearly and the daytime outside is retina searing as it should be
