  I think you guys are forgetting this is a terra formed planet, they don't necessarily have to make them accurate to real life, I know that most if not all the animals are pretty accurate, but just saying that they will probably put this on the back back burner.

  Because the desert predators we encounter there are definitely not looking like hyenas. Desert wolf would also be acceptable.

  i haven't encountered one ingame yet but going off the icon in the skinning bench it would appear to be a maned wolf, a south american canid is quite far off from an african feliform

  You are 100% correct. They look nothing like a 'real life' hyena. I'm gonna say these are 'space hyenas' for now until we improve it in the future :-)
