[Suggestion] Making the Case for the Space Station
Developers have stated that a Space Station model exists and just needs to be finished. The community has a reason to use it. Here's the case for finishing it.
*A Functional Hub
A physical space players load into between missions. Vendors and mission select accessible via terminal — no forced navigation, no disruption to existing workflow. The current UI experience preserved, just with an explorable location behind it.
*Dedicated Server Integration
Servers currently only have multiplayer interaction directly in prospects. With the station as a hub, dedicated servers could support a physical space for players to interact in prior to choosing their prospect, rather than a menu or command-line structure.
This could also open a development avenue for things such as:
- Voting on the next prospect
- Multiple active prospects per server, players choose who to join
- Leaderboards
*Progression and Personalization
Resources and missions fund station upgrades, unlocking decorative options for your section of the station and expanded services over time.
This could also open a development avenue for things such as:
- Company progression systems
- Memorial walls for lost prospectors
- Rotating vendor stock
- A natural anchor point for modding support and future content expansion
The foundation is there, let us enjoy the station our prospectors got their start on.

A Space Station would be so cool! If the developers went this route they could also add Space Station events, like sealing a breach, or catching a wanted prospector, or even investigations/betrayal of other prospectors for the factions. It might not match the overall Icarus gameplay loop, but it could be a "mini-game" of sorts to break away from the standard gameplay temporarily!
I would love to add a bit of Stationeers into the Icarus gameplay loop!
@Eventide
I mean everything in here takes development time. It's not for us to determine what is our isn't worthwhile for the developers. It's for us to make suggestions to share with others and for others to upvote and comment their excitement.
Question: Would you enjoy having a space station to walk around on and potentially decorate/upgrade dependant on amount of resources you're able to mine/invest?
That's what we need to discuss here! The developers put this in so we could make suggestions to inspire them! -

EventideBased on some early videos and concept art, some of this was part of their plan, but a "road not traveled," as the focus of game design became the ground experience where you can use tools, weapons, tamed animals and base-building for 95% of game time - so why spend the art and developer resources building out a physical space station model the player would use for the other 5%?
Not to suggest many players would not enjoy this :) But it needs a full expansion, storyline gameplay reason to exist, like: "return to the station to search for more evidence of Group 15's horrific experiments. Solve puzzles and battle your way through their most secure facility."
