[Suggestion] Animals should be able to kill other animals
100% love the game. It would be so cool to see a pack of wolves attack a bear and leave nothing but bones if you dont attack or you can watch and then kill the wolves when the bear is dead skin the wolves and bear. epic.

TigusVidiks MergedAnimals of different species are teaming up against the player.
I attack a wolf from stealth, and I am imediatly attacked not only by nearby wolves, but also any nearby bear, or boar will come to team up against me. What is worse, they don't attack each other, only me. Makes no sense that a boar would come to the rescue for a wolf.
Also, animals often don't react to each other. You will see wolves hunting rabbits, but you will also see wolves cross paths with boars and deers, literally 2 feet away, and they ignore each other.
I like what was done with the animals routines and characteristic behaviors but it still needs work, specially in the way they react to the player. -

Don Johnson the 4th MergedThere is no reason that a cougar should help a hyena in combat and them just walk away as if they are buddies. Why do bear fights seem to pull in wolves that tag team us. That is very unrealistic and lazy programming. I don't mind a challenge but animals are not friends especially predators.

Crazydaze MergedI find it frustrating that if you kill an animal near an elephant, the elephant decides to say hello and chases for about 30 seconds.

Zero MergedI’ve noticed this issue as well. When I engage a bear, the aggro range on a wolf seems to double.

The Unknownthey already do - it is just a VERY rare occurance...
That is to say... Only elephants in the desert and bears do... it needs to happen with the others like cougar/hyena/antelope etc
**I personally have only seen this happen (LIVE) with bears and elephants - elephants will protect themselves (or) attack cougar/etc... bears will seem to *rise/threaten* against some animals but not atatck them... i have yet to see any of this from any other animal ... BUT i have seen cougar and boars dead in a desert stream when i have played offline - solo... so i assume it happens but we are just not there to see it all the time???** -

SkwiggilyThe problem with animals attacking each other is twofold:
1. If predators kill more prey, there will be less prey for the players.
2. If predators kill other predators, there will be less difficulty for the players.
Sounds chaotic and realistic, but is extremely hard to balance. Could be done if you increased the spawn rate and then let predators be the population control for all the prey spawning. Also have to consider how that impacts how much exp people can get, if they can't find higher value animals because bears or wolves keep killing them, wouldn't feel very rewarding. -

Jason MergedAnimals shouldn't be attacking players if the player doesn't engage them. An example, I shoot a bear or wolf and there happens to be a boar in the area the boar will start to engage me. The animals should be attacking/fighting each other unless they are engaged by a player.

ExceededMerlin MergedPredators/Prey: Occationally seeing predators (pack of wolves even) chase after a deer would make it seem like the world is moving forward on its own. Improve AI pathing: Animals get stuck trying to jump over things they simply cannot. One frequent sight is seeing animals continually trying to jump up a cliff. Add more variety to wildlife as well as behaviours therein. Bringing the world more to life.

BigKid MergedI think that's probably because elefants inherited the "territorial" behavior of bears. They do not like other animals being killed on their turf...
However: I still think the animal behavior could get better and more diverse. And yes: Different species should not forget all their differences to team up and gank the player just because they all have the "aggresive" tag... -

Kataar MergedI think Icarus could really benefit from a legitimate food chain with the flora and fauna. As it stands, predators are nothing more than scavengers in Icarus, only consuming carcasses that players have killed, and never hunting for their own meals. Deer will walk by or sit by wolves without a worry in the world, as an example. It would also add a new element to survival if prey animals ate flora, forcing players to compete with the local wildlife for all food. This would probably necessitate a re-balancing of resources in the world, not to mention resource regeneration, but the immersion factor and the interesting challenge would make it well worth it!

Zoidy MergedI could be wrong here and probably are but I think in the Beta if you injured and failed to kill a deer or a goat etc any predators wolves and bears etc would chase after the animal you injured and finish them off and eat them. Im sure this happened int he beta but was removed or I quite possible can't remember as it has been over a year or so since the Beta Weekends etc...
If I'm wrong then this would be an interesting addition, making Predator and Prey more fitting to their roles. -

Falconburger MergedMaybe give predators a hunger bar. Onces its at 50% they start chasing/killing prey animals. Once it's at 25% they start chasing prospectors. Don't respawn prey until the predator count is reduced. This would lead to prospectors finding it hard to find prey animals to eat if the bears etc ate them all leading to competition for food. You could have the prey animals (or any omnivore) also strip all the wild crops (and raid your garden) leading to scarcity. Once animals hunger bar is empty they die. As it is now the animals are all zombies. Being able to swim backwards in water with a knife to kill a bear seems a bit silly too. Make bears swim faster than prospectors.

teslanz MergedWell i thought I seen that occurring in my last game and maybe its a fix method to shortcut this option occurring at times. It was juvenile buffalo that I lead for a while until I went into a cave and left. I already had a tiered up bull at base so was not something I needed and just forgot about it. I went out bit later and heard a cougar and a horse taken on something that by that time I had forgot about that bull and thought it was an update as this post discusses. Its one ive heard since ive started btw. But they were sure as hell fighting one another and he was no juvenile by then. Maybe this could be randomly put into the game to bypass specific programming to make it so? I later realised that it was a juvenile bull I had lead but forget about that the wild animals targeted. Still looked real from the vantage point I seen it go down. It was a bull by then, and bulls are tough. But point is from my eye having long forgotten about that lead id lost. It appeared as a wild.

Zoidy MergedSomeone correct me if I'm wrong here but I'm pretty sure that during the beta weekends wolves, etc would hunt and kill (or steal) any prey that you wound but not kill. So if you hit a deer and wound it but did not kill it then it would leave a blood trail that would attract nearby predators that would go after the wounded prey and finish them off or you if you were unlucky enough.
Komodo dragons kind of already do this with anything you kill as they are attracted to your kill and love to sneak up behind you and bite your backside (and poison you if you are unlucky). -

Malnaur MergedI would tweak this at least to allow a wolf on aggresive to kill AND eat prey animals if they are hungry below a threshold (50%?). Keeping them fed in the field is a major hassle although they happily drink from water sources like lakes. Elsewhere, I suggested allowing feeding out of hand with raw or cooked meat as well.
